About Me

About Me

Hello and welcome to Wye Nutrition Health & Wellbeing, my name is Rebecca Williams and I am a qualified registered nutritional therapist who uses a functional medicine approach; having completed a three-year diploma at the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM). I live in the beautiful area of the Wye Valley with my husband, my 2 dogs and I love to go walking and exploring.

My background is nursing, prior to training as a registered nutritional therapist, I have worked as a registered nurse, for more than twenty-five years in a variety of different clinical settings. My nursing career has provided me with in-depth physical and psychological assessment skills. Whilst I have trust in the medical model system and the sciences, I am convinced, that there are other alternatives and that nothing should be approached in isolation. Specialities must work together to complement each other, whilst the medical model encourages healthy eating and healthy lifestyle advice this tends to be in the form of generic checklists for conditions.

My journey

My journey towards improving my health and general wellbeing started over fifteen years ago and nutrition has played a pivotal role in helping me to achieve this. Up until my 30’s I hadn’t really been ill, apart from the occasional cold. Then I became extremely stressed, overworked and run down. I contracted a virus and was trapped in a vicious cycle of debilitating illness over several years. No definitive diagnosis could be given and I just kept on hoping that things would improve, but without really knowing why or changing anything.

The first time I began to make the connection between my diet and ill health was when I tried goats’ yoghurt and happened to notice (I now know due to the probiotics) that it helped ease some of my symptoms. I changed my job, started eating three healthy meals a day and started exercising. Slowly, but surely my symptoms improved as did my overall health, but I was still in a lot of pain all over my body and didn’t really understand why. I was referred to the rheumatologist and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Although a debilitating condition, my nutritional knowledge has helped me to manage my symptoms and improve my quality of life beyond what I ever thought was possible. Because of my love of food and having realised the importance nutrition played in my overall health, I decided to train as a registered nutritional therapist. What I have learnt through my training has been transformational. I am here to share my knowledge and expertise with you, to help you take back control of your own health.
